Ciacova
Skip unless you have a specific interest in Banat's Ottoman-era ruins or Serbian heritage; a half-day stop from Timișoara is enough for the defense tower and Turkish bridge.
Ciacova is a small town in the Banat plain, 28 km from Timișoara, with a handful of sights from its Ottoman and Habsburg past: a 14th-century defense tower, a Turkish bridge, and several churches. Most travellers pass through on the way to Lugoj or Oravița; the town itself does not demand a dedicated trip.
