Churchill Falls is a company town of about 700 people built around a 5.4-gigawatt underground hydro station, the third-largest in North America. Almost everyone arrives by car and leaves the next morning.

No public transport. The village is walkable in about 15 minutes end to end, and the hotel shuttles guests to the airport. You need your own car for the reservoir viewpoint, the trailhead and the dam; fuel up at the Ultramar station on John Cabot Street before heading out on Route 500.
