Give Chuncheon 1–2 nights, not a day trip: Seoul buses run 70 min for ₩7,700, and the lake, islands and dakgalbi need a full day plus a morning.
Chuncheon is the capital of Gangwon and the closest lake-and-hill escape from Seoul: the Gyeongchun metro line and nonstop buses from Dongseoul land you in about 70 minutes. It is a small-town base for Soyang River sights, Nami Island and the dakgalbi streets, not a big-city stop. One night covers the core; two nights if you add Legoland or a lake ferry.

Get around
Taxis are the fastest way around town and the fare does not change with passenger count; drivers rarely speak English, so carry your address in Korean. City buses cost about ₩1,100 cash (exact change into the slot) but run without a fixed schedule. Bicycles rent for about ₩3,000 per hour or ₩10,000 per day near Chuncheon and Namchuncheon stations. The Gyeongchun metro line and ITX-Cheongchun connect to Seoul.

Scams and watch-outs
- July and August bring 300–400 mm of rain in a single month: check the forecast before booking lake ferries or the skywalk.
- Most taxi drivers speak no English: have your destination written in Korean.
- Buses have no fixed timetable; waits can run from 5 minutes to over an hour.
- Some sights close on Mondays (Chuncheon National Museum, Animation Museum) and the Soyang River Skywalk closes Tuesdays.
- The Soyang River Skywalk takes card only, about ₩2,000.
Chuncheon is a low-crime provincial capital; the real risks are summer downpours, unlit riverside paths after dark and taxi drivers who cannot read an English address.
