Christchurch Airport is about 10 km northwest of the centre. The public bus is the budget option and takes roughly 30 minutes to the central bus interchange; a shuttle or taxi costs more and is faster with luggage. Check the current route number, fare and last departure before a late arrival.
Within the city, walking covers the centre, the Botanic Gardens and the riverside. Buses reach Sumner, New Brighton and Lyttelton, which is useful if you are not renting a car.
