Chorzów
Base in Katowice and day-trip: Chorzów's sights sit in one park plus a small centre, worth 1 day, not a hotel move.
Chorzów is an old mining and steel town that grew into Katowice's western edge, and most of what a visitor wants sits in one strip: the Silesian Culture and Recreation Park with its zoo, planetarium and Legendia funfair, plus the open-air ethnographic museum beside it. The centre is small and partly cut by a highway flyover. Trains from Katowice take 8 minutes and trams run along the boulevard, so a day trip covers it; sleep here only if you want the park at a slow pace or a cheaper bed than Katowice.

ZTM Metropolia runs the buses and trams across the Upper Silesian Metropolis on one ticket system; buy from machines or apps and validate on board. Trams along the boulevard are the easiest way to the park; bus 48 links Katowice and the centre every 30 min. Chorzów Batory station is the main rail stop, with trains to Katowice in 8 min and west to Zabrze and Gliwice.

- Legendia opens weekends only in April, September and October; daily 11:00–19:00 May–August.
- Rynek is sliced by a busy highway flyover: cross at the marked points.
A calm, ordinary Silesian city; the real risks are traffic on the flyover-cut Rynek, pickpockets on crowded trams, and winter ice. Standard big-city care is enough.
