Chișinău
Chișinău is a slow-morning, long-lunch capital: do the cathedral park and the markets before the afternoon heat, book wineries as separate day trips, and treat the airport ride as a taxi decision you make before you land.
Chișinău was rebuilt after the Second World War on a grid of wide boulevards, so the centre is flat and easy to read but has little shade in summer. The trips that go wrong are the ones that expect a compact old town, arrive after midnight without a booked ride, or plan wineries by public transport.
