The honest verdict
Chișinău was rebuilt after the Second World War on a grid of wide boulevards, so the centre is flat and easy to read but has little shade in summer. The trips that go wrong are the ones that expect a compact old town, arrive after midnight without a booked ride, or plan wineries by public transport. Four clusters cover a first visit; Cricova, Mileștii Mici and Orheiul Vechi are day trips from one kept bed.

Three mistakes to avoid
