Chintheche
Spend 2–3 nights at a lakeside lodge for beach time and birdwatching; a half-day stop is not worth the transfer from Mzuzu or Nkhata Bay.
Chintheche is a quiet beach town on the shores of Lake Malawi, known for its white-sand coves and tropical vegetation. It works best as a slow base for swimming, kayaking and birdwatching, not as a sightseeing destination. Most travellers stay 2–3 nights at one of the two lodges, then move north or south along the lake.
