Chikugo
筑後市
Skip Chikugo as a destination; use it as a 2-hour stop between Fukuoka and Kurume for the Koiki Shrine and Funagoya Onsen, or skip entirely.
Chikugo is a small rural city in the Chikugo Plain, 45 minutes by train from Fukuoka. Its main draws are the Koiki Shrine with its heart-shaped torii and the iron-rich Funagoya Onsen. Most travellers pass through without stopping; a half-day is enough if you go.
