Chascomús
A half-day stop between Buenos Aires and the Atlantic coast: walk the lagoon shore, see the Pampeano Museum, eat grilled fish, then move on. One night if you want to kayak or windsurf.
Chascomús, 123 km south of Buenos Aires on Route 2, is a classic pampas town built around a large lagoon. Its main draw is the water: you can walk or cycle the shore, sail, windsurf or kayak. The town also has a handful of historic buildings and a museum of gaucho culture. Most travellers use it as a lunch or coffee break on the drive to Mar del Plata or as a quiet weekend escape from the capital.
