Chapel Hill
Give Chapel Hill one full day plus a night: walk the UNC campus and Franklin Street, then sleep in Carrboro or downtown. Two nights if you want a game or a day trip.
Chapel Hill is the smallest of the Research Triangle's three cities and the most walkable: the UNC campus and Franklin Street sit next to each other, and Carrboro is a 20-minute walk west. Most visitors see it in a day, but a Tar Heels game, the planetarium or a slow afternoon in Carrboro justifies a night. A car helps for anything outside downtown.

Get around
Downtown and the UNC campus are walkable; Chapel Hill Transit is fare-free and covers Chapel Hill, Carrboro and campus, but service thins on weekends and stops early at night. Anything outside downtown — the botanical garden, Finley golf course, malls — is easier by car. Curb parking downtown fills up while school is in session; use the paid lots and garages on Rosemary Street.
