Give Changzhou one full day between Shanghai and Nanjing: Tianning Pagoda, Hongmei Park and the Grand Canal, then move on. Two nights only if you add Dinosaur Park or Yancheng.
Changzhou sits on the Shanghai–Nanjing high-speed line, about 1.5 h from either end, and most travellers pass through without getting off. The centre is compact and walkable from the station: a 13-storey pagoda, two free parks on the Grand Canal, a free museum and a snack lane. It is a good half-day stop or a quiet one-night break, not a destination in itself.

- Two rail stations: Changzhou Station (south, slow T/K trains and some D) and Changzhou North (north, most G high-speed trains). They are linked by an underground walkway and by metro — check which one your ticket names.
- Book high-speed tickets a few days ahead around public holidays; slower T/K services fill up and sell only at the ticket windows.
- Summer is hot and wet: June to August brings 180–220 mm of rain a month.
- Tianning Temple charges an entry fee and stops admitting visitors at 16:00; the museum is closed Mondays.
- Payments run on Alipay or WeChat Pay; set one up before you arrive, because foreign cards are not accepted everywhere.
Changzhou is a low-risk city for visitors; the real issues are summer heat and rain, traffic when crossing roads, and paying for things — set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you arrive, and keep the 110/120 numbers handy.
