Cetinje was Montenegro's royal capital and sits in a small valley under Lovćen, about 50 km from both Podgorica and Tivat airports and under an hour by road from Kotor or Budva. The historic centre is compact and walkable, so most travellers see it as a half-day or one-night stop between the coast and Lovćen National Park. It is the cheapest base for the mausoleum and the Njeguši village road.

- Private rooms near the bus station often need a phone call to the owner.
Very safe for a town of its size; the real risks are the mountain roads (mist, ice, no barriers in places) and uneven stone steps at the monastery and mausoleum.
