Cerrigydrudion
Skip as a base unless you have a car: one stop for Llyn Brenig, 2–3 h, then move on to Betws-y-Coed or Bala.
Cerrigydrudion is a small village of about 740 people on the A5 between Betws-y-Coed and Corwen, in Conwy county borough. It has no rail station and a two-hourly bus, so it works as a short car stop for Llyn Brenig reservoir and the surrounding moorland rather than a place to sleep for several nights. Most travellers pass through on the A5 toward Snowdonia or the north Wales coast.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake at first meeting; 'hi' and first names quickly; avoid: Cheek kisses with strangers
- Conversation: Weather is a safe opener; understatement and self-deprecating humour; avoid: Asking about salary or class
- Queues: Join at the back; avoid: Pushing onto buses or trains before others get off
- Apologies: 'Sorry' is said constantly, even when not at fault; avoid: Taking it as an admission of blame
- Pubs: Buy rounds in a group; wait at the bar without waving money; avoid: Clicking fingers at staff
- Nations: Call Scots Scottish and Welsh Welsh; avoid: Calling the whole UK 'England'
Scams and watch-outs
- No rail station: nearest are Betws-y-Coed and Chirk, and public transport onward is awkward.
- The T10 is roughly two-hourly: check the timetable before you rely on it.
- Mountain weather changes fast; carry waterproofs and check forecasts.
- Some cafés and attractions close out of season: check opening times.
A quiet rural village; the main risks are narrow roads, fast A5 traffic, and sudden moorland weather. Standard UK precautions apply.
