Cebu City

Use Cebu City as a one-night hub for Visayas connections: fly or ferry onward to Moalboal, Bohol or Siargao rather than lingering in the city itself.

Cebu City is the oldest Spanish-founded city in the Philippines and the main hub of the central Visayas. Historic sights cluster around Magellan's Cross and Fort San Pedro; most visitors use the city for onward flights and ferries to the islands, except during the Sinulog Festival in January, when the whole city turns out for the street parade.

Grab ride-hailing and metered taxis are the easiest way around; jeepneys are cheap but routes are hard to read for first-timers. Fast ferries from the Cebu City piers connect to Bohol, Negros and Leyte within a few hours.

Language

English is an official language and the language of business, schools and signs, so travel is easy. Filipino (Tagalog) is the national language; Cebuano (Bisaya) dominates the Visayas and Mindanao. Taglish mixes both.
