Cavite City
Give Cavite City one day, not a base: see San Roque's church and plaza, then move on. Two nights only if you want the Regada festival in June.
Cavite City is a small, flat, historic peninsula town about 45 minutes from Manila by bus, and the old capital of Cavite province. Its sights cluster in the San Roque district — a Spanish-era church, a plaza, a clock tower and a sea wall — and most of the rest is naval land you cannot enter without permission. It works as a half-day or one-night stop between Manila and Tagaytay, not as a holiday base.

Get around
Jeepneys on the Dalahican–PN–San Antonio route run the length of the city and pass San Roque Church and Samonte Park; base fare is about ₱13. Tricycles cover short hops. The city is a dead-end peninsula with one road in and out, so driving at rush hour is slow — get off the bus at the McDonald's junction and take a jeepney into San Roque instead of riding to the terminal.

Scams and watch-outs
- One road in and out: the Manila-Cavite Road causeway jams badly at rush hour. Allow up to 2 hours from PITX, not 45 minutes.
- Fort San Felipe and Sangley Point sit inside active naval bases — entry needs permission and registration, and is not guaranteed.
- Shoreline slum areas are built of light materials and are prone to fast-spreading fires; keep clear and follow local advice.
- Some sights are locked or partly dilapidated (Ladislao Diwa Shrine, the Ermita monument); treat them as look-from-outside stops.
- Sangley Point Airport has no scheduled passenger flights — check before booking anything around it.
Crime risk is similar to other towns near Metro Manila, and the navy and air force garrisons mean a visible security presence. The real issues are traffic on the single causeway, locked or run-down sights, and fire-prone shoreline slum areas.
