Go for 2 nights in Jul–Aug if you want Green Gables plus the beach; skip it outside late Jun–Sep, when almost everything is shut.
Cavendish is a small north-shore farming community that became PEI's biggest seasonal resort strip because Lucy Maud Montgomery set Anne of Green Gables here. Green Gables Heritage Place, the national-park beach and the boardwalk attractions sit within a few kilometres of each other on Route 6. It is a 40-minute drive from Charlottetown and effectively a summer-only place: motels, parks and restaurants close when the national park winds down in late September.

Get around
You need a car. Route 6 (Cavendish Road) is the spine: attractions, restaurants and shops line it, and the beach and Green Gables are short drives off it. There is no local bus. Parking at Green Gables and the beach fills by mid-morning in peak season. Bikes work on the shoulder but distances between clusters are a few kilometres each.

- Peak Jul–Aug traffic on Route 6 is slow; allow extra time for short distances.
- Cell coverage is fine in the village but patchy on some shore roads.
Very safe. The real risks are rip currents and cold water at the beach, deer and cyclists on Route 6 at dusk, and sunburn on cloudy days: swim near lifeguards and watch for posted warnings.
