Go for 2–3 nights if you ski or ride; in summer go as a day trip from Bariloche for the lift-served hiking, not as a base.
Catedral Alta Patagonia is the ski mountain above San Carlos de Bariloche, inside Nahuel Huapi National Park: about 120 km of runs, 28 lifts and a small slopeside village (Villa Catedral) 20 km from the city. Winter (Jun–Sep) is for skiing and snowboarding; summer (Dec–Mar) turns the same lifts into a hiking and mountain-bike access point. Most travellers sleep in Bariloche and ride up, because beds, restaurants and nightlife are cheaper and more varied down there.

Scams and watch-outs
- Lift lines at the base are long and some lifts are old and slow; go high early and stay high.
- Over 60% of the terrain is advanced or expert, so beginners should stay on the lower runs.
- Off-piste and backcountry zones are not patrolled or controlled: go with a guide and avalanche gear.
- Winter road up can be icy; check conditions before driving.
- Ski and board rental plus lift tickets are cheapest booked ahead in high season (Jul school holidays).
The resort itself is well organised and busy in season; the real risks are altitude and cold, unmarked off-piste terrain, and icy roads up from Bariloche. Keep valuables with you in the village and use official taxis or remises at night.
