Give Castlebar one night, not three: the town itself is a 2-hour walk, and the sights you came for are 10–30 km out and need a car.
Castlebar is the county town of Mayo and a practical base rather than a sight in itself: a low-rise 19th-century centre, a handful of pubs and restaurants, and a ring of museums, abbeys and greenway 10–30 km away with thin public transport. Most travellers sleep here one night, use it as a cheaper bed than Westport, and drive out by day. Two nights only if you want the National Museum at Turlough and Ballintubber Abbey without rushing.
