Carrollton is a small community in south Hampton Roads, on the Isle of Wight side of the James River Bridge opposite Newport News. There is no town centre to walk, no taxi rank and one hotel. Its one real sight is St. Luke's Church, the oldest surviving church in Virginia, a few minutes west at Benns Church. Treat it as a half-day detour inside a Hampton Roads trip, not a destination.

Get around
Car only. There are no taxis based here and the area is not walkable: shops and restaurants sit along a highway with no continuous pavement. Hampton Roads Transit route 964 serves one stop (Smiths Neck & Carrollton) twice a day in each direction, weekdays only, timed for commuters — not usable for sightseeing. Plan on driving, or ride-hailing from Newport News.
