Carmel is an affluent Indianapolis suburb of about 100,000 people, 30 minutes north of downtown by car on US 31. It is a planned, walkable Arts & Design District with a 1,600-seat concert hall, a 161-acre Central Park and the Monon Greenway trail. There is no big-ticket sight here: you come for a show, a festival, the trail and easy parking, not for a landmark.

Get around
A car is the practical default: US 31 runs light-free from I-465 to the north edge in about 7 minutes, and the city has 80-plus roundabouts instead of traffic lights. Central Carmel around Main Street and the Palladium is walkable, and the Monon Greenway carries you south toward Broad Ripple and Indianapolis or north to Westfield on foot or by bike. Bus service is thin; use ride-hailing for evenings.
