Get around
The village and beach are walkable; there are no street numbers in the core, so directions use street names and intersections. A car is needed for the coastline, Point Lobos, the mission and Carmel Valley. Street parking is free for a couple of hours; there is a garage at Carmel Plaza (Ocean and Junipero). Monterey-Salinas Transit buses 1, 2 and 24 link Monterey and Carmel; bus 24 continues to Carmel Valley. Bicycling is possible but streets are hilly and narrow.
