Carlinville is a Macoupin County seat of about 5,700 people, 12 miles off I-55 and on the Amtrak Lincoln Service between Chicago and St. Louis. Get around
The square, courthouse, old jail and Sears Homes streets are walkable from each other in 10–20 minutes. Everything else — the lake, the state park, the orchard, the winery, the fairgrounds — needs a car. Macoupin County Transit runs limited inter-town service; check days and booking.
