Give Carberry one night, not a base: Spruce Woods and the sandhills are the reason to stop, and you need a car to reach them.
Carberry is a town of about 1,700 people on PTH 5, 3 km south of the Trans-Canada Highway, 50 km east of Brandon and 150 km west of Winnipeg. It is the practical gateway to Spruce Woods Provincial Park and the Carberry Sandhills, so most travellers use it as a single overnight on the Winnipeg–Brandon drive rather than a destination in itself. Downtown is Manitoba's first Provincial Heritage District and is walkable; everything else needs a car.

Spruce Woods Provincial Park, the golf course, the casino and Camp Hughes all sit 5–25 km (3.1–16 mi) out on PTH 5 or PR 351, so a private car is effectively required.
