Capitola is a small Monterey Bay beach town about 6 miles (10 km) east of Santa Cruz, built around a compact village, a sheltered beach and a wharf. It is a half-day to one-day stop, not a base for a whole trip: most visitors sleep here one or two nights and use it as a quieter, walkable alternative to Santa Cruz.

Get around
The village, beach and wharf are walkable in 10 minutes end to end. Santa Cruz Metro buses 66, 68 and 69 run between Santa Cruz Metro Center and Capitola Mall (about $2, check current fare). Bicycle or rideshare for the 2-mile hop to New Brighton. A car helps for anything beyond the village; Highway 1 exits at 41st Avenue, Park Avenue or Bay Porter.
