Capena
Skip Capena unless you have a car and want a quiet half-day among Etruscan ruins and a medieval centre; from Rome it's a 40-min drive, not worth a bus trip.
Capena is a small medieval town 30 km north of Rome, with a handful of Etruscan-Roman sights, a quiet piazza and a few rustic restaurants. It works as a short stop for drivers exploring Lazio's countryside, but public transport is thin and the sights can be seen in 2–3 hours. Most travellers should spend the time in Rome or nearby Tivoli.
