- Bo-Kaap: A lived-in neighbourhood, not a photo backdrop: ask before photographing residents or private homes.
- Robben Island: A former political prison: keep a respectful tone, especially inside the cells and during the ex-political-prisoner talk.
- Car guards: A small tip (R5–R10) is customary when parking on the street; not obligatory for a large or aggressive demand.
- Tipping: 10–15% at sit-down restaurants if service is not already added; round up for ride-hail drivers.
- Beaches: Swim only between the lifeguard flags; currents can be strong on the Atlantic side.
- Photos: Ask before photographing people up close, especially in Bo-Kaap and any township tour.
