Canoa Quebrada
Go for 2–3 nights if you want a walkable cliff beach with buggy tours and low prices; skip if you need big-city nightlife or a resort.
Canoa Quebrada is a small beach village on red sandstone cliffs in Ceará, about 160 km southeast of Fortaleza in the municipality of Aracati. It is walkable end to end, dry and sunny most of the year, and still works as a fishing village with jangada rafts on the sand. Two or three nights covers the beach, the dunes and a buggy run; more only if you kite or want to slow down.

Get around
The village is small enough to walk everywhere, barefoot if you like. Buggies, jangadas and paragliding are booked on the beach or through your pousada; there is no need for a car inside the village.

Scams and watch-outs
- Muggings are reported, mostly late at night and targeting people walking home alone from the beach or Broadway: share a ride or walk in a group.
- Some stretches of beach flood at high tide — you will get wet to the knees.
- Goods are scarce and overpriced in the village; Aracati has the shops.
- The 10% service charge printed on menus often does not reach the staff: tip the waiter directly in cash.
Canoa is calmer than Brazil's big cities but no longer crime-free: muggings are reported, mostly late at night against people walking home alone. Keep to lit streets in a group, carry little cash, and use a ride after midnight.
