Canaan (Falls Village)
A 30-minute stop or a half-day walk: see the covered bridge and Falls Village, then continue north to the Berkshires or south in Litchfield Hills.
Canaan is a small township in the Litchfield Hills of northwestern Connecticut, made up of the villages Falls Village and South Canaan. It sits on US Routes 7 and 44, the main corridor between the Berkshires and the rest of Connecticut. The main draw is the historic covered bridge over the Housatonic River and the quiet village centre. Most travellers use it as a brief stop on a longer drive.
