Câmpulung
Câmpulung Muscel
Half a day to see the old town and Negru Vodă monastery, or a full day if you add a hike in the nearby Carpathians. Not a base — use Pitești or Brașov for longer stays.
Câmpulung was one of the first capitals of Wallachia and keeps a medieval monastery, a 13th-century Catholic church and two small museums. The city is compact and walkable, but most travellers pass through on the way to the mountains. A half-day stop works; a full day only if you plan a short hike.
