Campobello Island
Go for 1–2 nights between late May and mid-October: the Roosevelt park and Herring Cove trails are the whole point, and most services close in winter.
Campobello is a 14 km island at the mouth of Passamaquoddy Bay, reached by bridge from Lubec, Maine, or by two ferries from mainland New Brunswick in summer. It is small, quiet and car-dependent: one full day covers the Roosevelt park and Herring Cove, two nights let you add whale-watching from shore and a slow morning. Winter shuts most of it down.

Get around
You need a car: Route 774 is the island's only highway and there is no public transit. Fuel and full grocery shops are limited on the island, so fill up and stock up in Lubec or St. Stephen before crossing. The two summer ferries (L'Etete–Deer Island, then Deer Island–Campobello) are the only car route that avoids the US border.

Scams and watch-outs
- The only road link to Canada is via the US: you cross the border at Lubec, Maine, so carry a passport or equivalent and check current entry rules both ways.
- The L'Etete–Deer Island–Campobello ferry route runs in summer only; outside that window the bridge via Maine is the only way in.
- Fuel, groceries and restaurants are scarce and seasonal: many places close mid-October and reopen in May.
- Fog is common in summer and can cancel whale-watching boats and slow driving; build a spare half-day.
- Cell coverage is patchy on the outer shore; download offline maps before you arrive.
Very low crime; the real risks are fog, deer and moose on Route 774, cold water along the shore, and the border paperwork if you cross to Maine without a passport.
