Cameroon by month
The country has several climates, so the month you pick depends on whether you want the coast, the forest, the highlands or the Adamawa plateau. November to February is the one window that works almost everywhere on the open map. March to June and September to November bring rain to the Centre and West; July to September is the coastal storm season.
December and January are dry but hazy in some years, and December is the peak for flights and Kribi hotels. If you want lower prices and can accept afternoon rain, April to June and October are the quiet months.

Which region in which season
Cameroon is not one climate. The coast around Douala, Kribi and Limbe is hot and humid all year and takes roughly 4 m of rain, most of it July to September. The Centre and South forest around Yaoundé, Ebolowa, Campo and Dja has two rainy seasons, March to June and September to November, with a short dry spell in July and August. The Western highlands around Dschang, Bafoussam and Foumban are cooler at 1,200–1,600 m and their side roads turn muddy in the rains. The Adamawa plateau at Ngaoundéré, the end of the railway from Yaoundé, is drier and hotter in March. The Sahelian north around Garoua and Maroua is shown for completeness only: most of it is under advice against travel.

Cost and crowds by season
Cameroon's high season is December to February, and it peaks over Christmas and New Year, when diaspora visits fill flights into Douala and hotels at Kribi. Book those weeks early. April to June and October are the low season: fewer visitors, softer hotel rates and easier transport, at the cost of rain and mud on secondary roads.

Holidays that change your trip
Public holidays rarely close the country, but they do fill buses and shut offices. Youth Day on 11 February brings school parades and morning road closures in every town. National Day on 20 May means a military parade in Yaoundé with central roads closed. Eid al-Fitr (around 20 March 2026) and Eid al-Adha or Tabaski (around 27 May 2026) are observed in the Muslim north and Muslim quarters of the cities, with sheep markets and heavy travel to home towns. Both dates are lunar, so check before booking.
Good Friday, Ascension Day and Labour Day on 1 May are public holidays with parades or full churches but little effect on travellers.

Practical notes before you book
The month matters less than where you go. November to February is the safe default for a first trip: Douala, the West region chiefdoms, and the Kribi coast. If your dates fall in July or August, keep to the Centre and Adamawa plateau and leave the coast for another trip.
Travel advice also shapes timing. The North-West, South-West and Far North regions and all land borders with Nigeria, Chad and the Central African Republic are no-go under current advice, so the northern dry season is not a reason to go there.
