Cameron Highlands is Malaysia's largest hill station, a string of small towns on a 1,500 m plateau about 85 km from Ipoh and 200 km from Kuala Lumpur. Days sit near 18–25 °C and nights drop to around 12 °C, so it works as a cool break from the coast and the cities. The towns are spread over roughly 25 km, buses between them are limited, and rain arrives most afternoons. Two nights covers the tea estates, a farm or two and one jungle trail without rushing.

Tanah Rata and Brinchang are each walkable, but they are 4 km apart and the sights stretch over about 25 km. A tourist shuttle runs between Tanah Rata and Kampung Raja roughly every two hours, stopping at Brinchang, Kea Farm, Tringkap and Kuala Terla; fares are about RM2–5. Taxis are hired by the hour (about RM30/h) and rarely use the meter, so agree the price first. Scams and watch-outs
- Afternoon rain is normal: carry a poncho and start trails in the morning.
- Trail closures change often after landslides; ask at the Tanah Rata tourist office before setting out and turn back if a path looks impassable.
- Taxi drivers often refuse the meter — agree the fare before you get in.
- The road up to Gunung Brinchang and the Mossy Forest is narrow and steep; access to the summit has been closed at times.
- Weekend and school-holiday traffic into Brinchang can add an hour to short drives.
Low crime; the real risks are wet, slippery trails, fast driving on the narrow hill roads and afternoon storms. Solo hiking is common but tell your guesthouse your route.
