Cambridge is a small village and town in Washington County, in the rural northeast of New York's Capital District, about an hour by car from Albany. Main Street has a run of 19th-century brick buildings, Hubbard Hall keeps a working 1878 opera house, and the Battenkill River is the reason most people stop. There is no train and no useful bus: come by car, sleep one night, and treat it as a countryside pause between Albany, Saratoga Springs and Troy.

A car is the practical answer: US-22 runs north–south through the village and Route 372 (Main Street) runs east–west, with free street parking on Main Street. The countryside, the river put-ins and the neighbouring villages are all a drive away. Walking works only inside the village core.
