Cambridge-Narrows
Go for one night as a lake stop between Fredericton and Saint John: swim, camp or rent a cottage. No lake, no reason to stop.
Cambridge-Narrows is a village of about 700 people on Washademoak Lake, a navigable arm of the Saint John River in Queens County, New Brunswick. It sits roughly between Fredericton, Saint John and Moncton, and it works as a summer cottage-and-camping base rather than a sightseeing town. Come for the water, the small museum and a slow evening; skip it outside the May–October season, when most services close.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake; 'Bonjour' first in Québec; avoid: Assuming everyone speaks English
- Queues: Line up and wait your turn; avoid: Pushing in
- Apologising: 'Sorry' is politeness, not admission of fault; avoid: Loud confrontation
- Canada vs US: Treat Canada as its own country; avoid: Calling Canadians American
- Indigenous culture: Buy from Indigenous-owned businesses and ask before photos at ceremonies; avoid: Wearing headdresses as costume
Scams and watch-outs
- Most restaurants, campgrounds and rentals are seasonal: confirm opening before you drive out in spring or fall.
- Fuel and groceries are limited in the village; fill up in Grand Lake or Gagetown.
- Cell coverage is patchy on back roads around the lake.
- Moose and deer cross Route 695 and Route 715 at dusk: slow down.
Very safe for a small lakeside village; the real risks are highway driving at dusk, cold lake water in spring and seasonal businesses that are simply closed.

French is useful in New Brunswick but English is fine here.
