The ferry and the road to Calgary
The main crossing is Oban to Craignure, run by CalMac. It takes about 45–50 minutes and runs several times a day, with a reduced timetable in winter. Foot passengers can usually turn up, but vehicles need a booked space, and summer sailings sell out days or weeks ahead. A second option is the Lochaline to Fishnish crossing on the Sound of Mull, useful if you are driving up through the Highlands; from Fishnish the road to Calgary is shorter than from Craignure.
From Craignure, Calgary is roughly 30–35 km along the A849, a single-track road in places with passing places. West Coast Motors runs buses along this route, but services are thin, especially on Sundays. A taxi from the Craignure ferry terminal is the simplest fallback; agree the fare before you set off, as meters are not always used on the island.
If you are staying elsewhere on Mull first, the same bus and taxi options work from Salen, Dervaig or Tobermory.

Mull's weather changes fast and ferries can be cancelled in high winds, so build slack into the day you plan to leave. If a sailing is cancelled, CalMac usually moves you to the next available one, but that can mean a night on the island you had not budgeted for.
Mobile signal is patchy on the west coast. Download ferry and bus timetables, plus an offline map, before you leave Oban. A UK eSIM or a local SIM works on the island where there is coverage, but do not rely on it for planning.
