Caldas da Rainha

Base here 1–2 nights for the daily fruit market, Bordallo Pinheiro ceramics and thermal history; skip if you only want Lisbon or Óbidos.

Caldas da Rainha is a small ceramics city in the Oeste, about 90 km north of Lisbon and 10 km from the Atlantic. One night covers the market, the museums and the ceramics factory; two nights add Foz do Arelho and the Óbidos Lagoon. It works best as a base for Óbidos, Nazaré and Alcobaça rather than a destination on its own.
