Calbayog, a city of about 180 000 on Samar, sits on the Maharlika Highway and offers a cluster of waterfalls, a historic cathedral and a modest waterfront. The sights are spread out, so a full day covers the main attractions; a second day lets you reach the farther falls or take a short trip to nearby Catbalogan. Public transport is limited to tricycles and occasional buses, so keep travel times in mind.
