Butwal
Half a day is enough to see the main sights; use Butwal as a transit stop or a base for Lumbini and Siddharthanagar, not a destination.
Butwal is the commercial hub of Nepal's Western Tarai and a transport crossroads. Its own sights — a Hindu temple, a ruined palace and a fortress — fill half a day. Most travellers use it as a stopover between Kathmandu and Lumbini or as a base for the nearby Buddha birthplace.
