Burry Port is a small Carmarthenshire harbour town 5 miles west of Llanelli, known as the landing site of Amelia Earhart after her 1928 transatlantic flight. The harbour is now a marina with an 1842 lighthouse, and the real draw is the flat, traffic-free coast path plus the seven-mile beach and country park at Pembrey next door. It is a quiet, low-cost base for walkers and cyclists rather than a sightseeing town, and most visitors see it in a day.

Get around
The town is small enough to walk end to end in about 20 minutes. The Millennium Coastal Path runs traffic-free and mostly flat from Loughor Bridge through Burry Port to Kidwelly, and is the best way to reach Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan beach by bike or on foot. Trains and buses link Burry Port with Llanelli and Carmarthen in both directions; a car helps for Pembrey Circuit, the Gower and out-of-town beaches.
