Skip as a base: Budaörs is a 12-minute train ride from Budapest, so sleep in Budapest and come out for the hills, the Swabian museum and a cheap lunch.
Budaörs is a commuter town on Budapest's western edge, ringed by the Buda Hills and split by the M1 and M7 motorways. Its draw is small and specific: a Swabian local-history house, an archaeology museum, wooded hills with geyser-cone viewpoints, and a cluster of weekday lunch canteens that undercut Budapest prices. Almost nobody needs to sleep here — the train from Budapest Déli takes 12 minutes and costs Ft 250.

Get around
The town is walkable from Templom tér to the museums and the Kő Hill trailhead. Buses 40, 40B, 88, 88A and 188 link Budaörs with Budapest Kelenföld (metro M4); 240 runs from Móricz Zsigmond körtér and 140/140A from Széll Kálmán tér (not Sundays). Local lines 1–299 are BKK-run and Budapest passes are not valid past the city boundary; lines 288 and 289 are free. Taxis are local firms — agree the fare first.
