Buchholz in der Nordheide is a small town on the north edge of the Lüneburg Heath, about 20 km south of Hamburg and inside the Hamburg metropolitan region. It is the largest town in Harburg district and works as a quiet, cheaper bed for heath walks, the Brunsberg hill and the open-air museums around Rosengarten. The town itself has a market square and a short restaurant strip, not a sight list. Most travellers pass through by train or use it as a car base.

Get around
The town is walkable. Local buses run about every 30 minutes on main routes (check timetables). For the heath, the Brunsberg and the museums around Rosengarten, a car or a bike is much easier than buses; the metronome and regional trains link Buchholz with Hamburg and Bremen.
