Brunswick is a small Potomac River town on the MARC commuter line and the C&O Canal towpath, about 40 minutes by car from Dulles and 8 miles from Harpers Ferry. The historic district takes an hour on foot; the reason to come is the canal path, the rail museum and the mountain-bike trails. Most travellers pass through on the way to Harpers Ferry or Frederick, or stop one night while cycling the towpath.

The historic district is walkable in about 15 minutes end to end. Anything beyond town — the campground, the bike trails, Harpers Ferry — needs a car or a bicycle. MARC trains run on weekdays only, toward Washington in the morning and back in the evening.
