Bridgnorth
Give Bridgnorth one day and one night: the Cliff Railway, the leaning castle keep and the steam railway fill a day; a second night is optional for a slower visit.
Bridgnorth is a small Shropshire market town split into High Town and Low Town on the River Severn, with a castle keep that leans further than Pisa's tower and England's oldest funicular linking the two levels. There is no National Rail station: you arrive by bus or by preserved steam railway, so it works as a day trip from Telford or Shrewsbury or as a quiet one-night stop.

- The Severn Valley Railway does not run every day: check the timetable before you build a day around it.
- The castle keep and the Cliff Railway are on the cliff edge: keep children back from the drop.
- Some small cafés and shops are cash only: carry a little cash.
A small town with the usual UK emergency numbers: 999 or 112 for police, fire and ambulance, 101 for non-urgent police, 111 for NHS non-urgent. The steps between High and Low Town are steep and uneven, and riverside paths can be wet after rain: take care, especially after dark.
