Brewarrina
Go for one night if you are already driving the Bourke–Walgett route: the fish traps and the cultural tour are the reason, not the town itself.
Brewarrina is a small outback town on the Barwon River in northwestern New South Wales, about 800 km northwest of Sydney and 100 km east of Bourke. It is known for the Brewarrina Aboriginal Fish Traps (Baiame's Ngunnhu), a heritage-listed stone weir system whose age is still debated, and for a guided Aboriginal cultural tour that runs on site. There is no airport and no passenger train, so you arrive by car or as a stop on a longer outback drive. One night is enough for the traps, the museum and the bridge; two nights if you want a river camp and a slower look.

Get around
The town is flat and small enough to walk end to end in about 20 minutes. Streets are narrow and old, so park the car at your accommodation and use it only for the river reserves and the drive out. There is no local bus service.
