Bowness is the tourist centre of the South Lakes: the ferry jetties, boat piers and most of the hotels sit on the shore of Windermere, England's largest lake. Get around
Walk: the village, Glebe and piers are compact. Buses run every 20 min between Windermere station and the Bowness ferry jetty; local services also link Ambleside and Grasmere. The Windermere car ferry crosses to Far Sawrey. Taxis are useful for groups of 4–5.
