Bowie
Skip Bowie as a base unless you have a reason: give it half a day for the Belair museums and Old Town, then sleep in Washington or Annapolis.
Bowie is a Washington, D.C. suburb in Prince George's County, Maryland, about 20 miles from the Capitol. Most of it is 1960s Levitt planned housing, but Old Bowie keeps a railroad museum, a welcome centre and antique shops, and the Belair estate tells the story of the horse farm that once covered the area. It is a car place: sights sit 3–6 km apart and buses are thin. Come for a half day, or use it as a cheaper bed near BWI and the MARC Penn Line.
