Bowen Island
Go as a day trip from Vancouver: 20-min ferry from Horseshoe Bay, walk Snug Cove, hike Dorman Point or Killarney Lake, back by the 22:05 ferry.
Bowen Island is a 20-minute BC Ferries hop from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, and it works best as a single unhurried day: a small village at Snug Cove, short forest and lake trails, kayak rentals on the dock, and a handful of cafés and a pub. There are no hotels or campgrounds, so sleeping over means a B&B or cottage; the island is quiet, walkable near the ferry and safe, with the ferry itself the main thing to plan around.

Get around
On foot around Snug Cove and Crippen Regional Park. TransLink buses 280 and 282 link the ferry terminal (Bowen Island Trunk Rd at Cardena Dr) with Artisan Square and other parts of the island, but run infrequently. No taxis; Lyft operates in the Vancouver area. Bikes and e-bikes can be rented near the ferry; hitchhiking is common on the island. A car is only worth bringing if you are staying away from the village.

- Mechanical faults can cancel the ferry and strand vehicles on the island; check BC Ferries service notices before driving on.
- Last ferry from Snug Cove is around 22:05 and sailings are roughly hourly with a gap in the early afternoon: check the day's schedule before you commit to a late dinner.
- No hospital on the island; the nearest is in North Vancouver and medical transfers usually go by water taxi.
- Trails are forest and root-covered: wear shoes with grip and carry water, there is little on the route.
