Where to stay in Boston: best neighborhoods and hotels

Boston is a small coastal town in Davao Oriental, not the US city. Almost all visitor beds sit in or beside Poblacion, the town centre, within walking distance of the market, the port and the main eateries. That is where you should stay if you want to walk to food and boats without arranging transport.

If Poblacion is full, widen to nearby coastal barangays, or base in Mati, about two hours away by road, which has more hotels and services. Book ahead in peak season (roughly Dec–May) and around local fiestas, because a small town has few rooms and they go quickly.

Prices are 2026 estimates for a double room per night in Philippine pesos. Walking times are to the town centre or the nearest beach, whichever matters more for that area.

Poblacion is the practical choice. Guesthouses, homestays and small inns cluster around the centre, and you can walk to the public market for fruit and meals, to the port for boat trips, and to the handful of eateries that open for dinner. Rooms are simple: fan or air-conditioning, cold or hot shower, sometimes a shared bathroom. Ask before booking if hot water and Wi-Fi matter to you, because both can be intermittent.

The coastal barangays just outside town trade convenience for quiet. You may get a beach in front of your room, but you will need a tricycle or motorbike to reach the market and restaurants, and transport thins out after dark. This suits travellers with their own plans, a rented scooter or a driver.

Mati, about two hours west by road, is the fallback. It has more hotels, banks, ATMs and restaurants, and it works as a base if you are combining Boston with other stops in Davao Oriental. The trade-off is the daily drive. Davao City is the air gateway for the region; a night there on arrival or before departure is sensible if your flight lands late.

For first-time visitors, the simplest plan is two or three nights in Poblacion, then move on. Check the town's fiesta dates and any local events before you fix dates, because accommodation in a small town can sell out.

Expect ₱800–2,500 for a double room in or near Boston, with fan rooms at the low end and air-conditioned rooms with hot water at the top (2026 estimate). Budget homestays can be cheaper; newer or larger places in Mati and Davao City run higher.

Bring cash in pesos. Card and e-wallet acceptance is limited outside bigger towns, and ATMs are scarce, so withdraw in Davao City or Mati before you arrive. Tipping is about 10% where no service charge is added, and small change is useful for tricycle drivers.
