Bojonegoro
Stop for one night if you are passing on the Jakarta–Surabaya rail line, or a half-day for the teak-forest flame and the oil fields; skip it as a base.
Bojonegoro is a regency town in East Java, about 100 km west of Surabaya, on the main Jakarta–Surabaya railway. It is a working town of tobacco, teak and, since the 2005 oil discoveries, a small petroleum boom. Sights are few and spread out: an eternal flame in a teak forest, a Confucian temple, a town square, and a century-old traditional oil field at Wonocolo. Most travellers use it as a rail stop or a short detour between Surabaya, Ngawi and Tuban.

Get around
No taxis. Becak (pedicabs) cover the centre; agree the price before you sit. Public minibuses (MPU/Kol) run from Rajekwesi terminal to Babat, Kalitidu–Padangan, Ngasem and Temayang. For Kayangan Api, Growgoland and Wonocolo you need a car, a scooter or a hired driver.

- Wonocolo is an active oil field: stay on the marked paths and away from equipment.
A quiet regency town and generally safe by day; the real risks are becak and ojek fares with no posted price, unlit roads out to Kayangan Api and Wonocolo at night, and rainy-season flooding. Ask the total before you sit.
